After completing high school at age 16, Rene started working for Benihana; credited as America’s first teppanyaki restaurant and inventor of the Japanese Steakhouse concept. He received his first position as executive chef by the age of 21 and for the next 13 years, continued to refine his skills as a hibachi chef and restaurant
consultant. Pioneering a culinary methodology that combined a Western culinary knowledge base with established teppan style techniques, Rene has trained over 100 chefs and contributed to the development of numerous establishments throughout the United States.
